Kantara Chapter 1 vs KGF 2: Unprecedented BO Winner

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 has taken the Indian box office by storm, collecting an impressive ₹73 crore on Sunday alone. This brings its four-day extended weekend total to ₹260 crore. What makes this even more remarkable is that the film’s Day 4 collections surpassed its opening day, a rare trend for any major South Indian release, especially one that opened with a national holiday advantage.

In Karnataka, the film’s performance has been historic. Kantara: Chapter 1 has officially surpassed KGF Chapter 2 in four-day box office numbers a remarkable feat considering KGF 2 had a stronger start. Kantara grew steadily through word-of-mouth and overtook KGF 2 by Sunday.

Four-Day Box Office Comparison (Karnataka):

Day Kantara: Chapter 1 KGF Chapter 2
Thursday Rs. 22 crore Rs. 24.5 crore
Friday Rs. 16.5 crore Rs. 18 crore
Saturday Rs. 18 crore Rs. 16 crore
Sunday Rs. 19.5 crore Rs. 17 crore
Total (4 Days) Rs. 76 crore Rs. 75.5 crore

The difference may seem small, but the trend reveals a major shift. Kantara: Chapter 1 started slower than KGF 2 but grew daily, while KGF 2 slightly dipped after its massive start. With this performance, Kantara: Chapter 1 now holds the biggest four-day opening in Karnataka history, dethroning KGF 2.

Trade analysts predict that Kantara: Chapter 1 could soon become the highest-grossing film ever in Karnataka, breaking the record held by the original Kantara. Its phenomenal run across urban and rural areas has turned it into a cultural milestone once again.

The film also maintained a strong hold in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The only underperforming market is Hindi, where collections started below expectations. Still, the Hindi version grew by 60% on Saturday and delivered a solid Sunday, hinting at long-term potential in North India — though it’s unlikely to match KGF 2’s scale in the Hindi belt.
