Will Common Sense Prevail For The US Distributor?

When there are words like common sense and distributor used in the same sentence it means that there is a big acquisition in making and most probably the distributor acquiring it is making a dumb decision. So what could be it if the movie is Pawan Kalyan starrer Katamarayudu?

As you read this the makers of Katamarayudu are negotiating the US distribution price for the film. The asking rate is approximately 13 Cr. It will be a record of sorts (non-Baahubali) if that happens. But the real question we would like to ask here is, is that price necessary?

Katamarayudu is clearly not an overseas friendly film and it depends on purely Pawan Kalyan stardom to collect whatever it can. It was the same case with the star’s previous film and it ended up being a huge loss maker despite crossing Million. At least there was a Gabbar Singh brand and a long gap of Pawan Kalyan involved. This time there are no such cushions and on top of that, this is a remake of an average Tamil film.

Keeping all that in mind and latest issues of local exhibitors, such an asking rate is a risky proposition. The brighter side is the market has expanded and if a disastrous movie could do Million, surely a film with better talk put up better numbers. If Katamarayudu is picked at a reasonable price, with good talk it could be a hugely profitable movie. Will the common sense prevail or the bigger market scenario could come under consideration while taking a call?
