Lokah HD Print Leak: Piracy Killing Quality Cinema

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra directed by Dominic Arun released in theatres on August 28 and has received highly positive audience responses.

With strong word of mouth, Lokah is performing exceptionally well at the box office and has already emerged as the highest-grossing women-centric movie in South India.

However, a clean HD print of Lokah with original audio was recently leaked on pirated websites, shocking the entire Malayalam film industry.

Piracy has become a major threat to Malayalam cinema in recent months, and for Lokah, the HD print appeared online within just six days of release.

Trade experts are urging the Malayalam Films Association to take strict action against piracy, as it directly impacts box office earnings and audience turnout.

Earlier, only theatre versions were leaked online, but now HD prints with original soundtracks are surfacing within days of release, worsening the problem.

Directors are doing their best to bring audiences back to theatres, but rampant piracy continues to harm quality cinema and damage filmmakers’ efforts.

It now remains to be seen whether the leaked HD print will affect Lokah’s box office performance in the coming days, despite its strong initial run.
