Lokesh Kanagaraj on Risky Path: Will History Repeat?

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s DC Acting Debut

It is not wrong for star directors to dream of becoming actors. Everyone has the right to change their path if their career does not move in the expected direction. However, one must always remember their strengths and the faith audiences have in them.

About twenty-five years ago, SV Krishna Reddy was in great form, delivering industry hits with actors like Rajendra Prasad and Ali. During that peak period, he decided to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero and acted in films like Ugadi and Abhishekam.

Unfortunately, both films flopped badly, and neither he nor any producer dared to cast him as a lead actor again. After that, he also lost his touch as a director. His career was finished because of his craze for becoming a hero.

Years later, producer Dil Raju announced a project titled Seenayya with VV Vinayak as the hero. But that film never went to regular shooting and was shelved. Some even approached Puri Jagannadh to act as a hero. Many producers would have been ready to invest any amount if SS Rajamouli had ever shown such interest.

Of course, not everyone who tries both paths fails. Filmmakers like Dasari Narayana Rao, Bhagyaraj, Ravichandran, R. Narayana Murthy, Sr. NTR, and Krishna successfully balanced the roles of actor and director. However, the situations back then were completely different from today.

The reason this topic has become relevant again is because of Lokesh Kanagaraj. He is now turning hero for a film titled DC, produced by Sun Pictures. The film stars Wamiqa Gabbi as the heroine and is directed by Arun Matheswaran.

A short teaser was released today, giving a hint that the story revolves around a man named Devadas who falls in love with a woman named Chandra, a prostitute. The music will be composed by Anirudh.

While the project looks promising on paper, many movie lovers feel disappointed that Lokesh, who is currently at the peak of his career as a star director, is diverting from his successful path.

They believe he should continue focusing on his filmmaking journey rather than stepping into acting at such a crucial stage of his rise. God forbid if this film DC becomes a flop. It might be a big blow to his morale and could even affect his skills as a writer and director, which are his forte.
