Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially taken a break from social media. This comes as he enters the final leg of post-production for his ambitious project Coolie, starring none other than Superstar Rajinikanth.
Slated for a grand theatrical release on August 14, Coolie is one of the most anticipated films of 2025. It’s not just a major event for Rajini fans but also for those who follow Lokesh’s signature style of storytelling.

The director shared a note on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“Hey guys! I’m taking a small break from all the social media platforms until #Coolie’s promotions. With Love, Lokesh Kanagaraj.”

While Lokesh has always proudly worn his Kamal Haasan fandom on his sleeve, Coolie marks his first directorial outing with Rajinikanth.
In his own words, it’s a challenge he took up to prove “what a hardcore Kamal Haasan fan can do with a Rajinikanth film.” That bold statement alone has raised expectations sky-high. Fans are expecting a genre-defying mass spectacle.

Coolie features a powerhouse ensemble including Upendra, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Aamir Khan. However, the release date sets the stage for a massive box office clash. Coolie will face off against War 2, the most awaited sequel starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR.
Soon after Lokesh’s tweet, fans of Hrithik and NTR flooded the replies. Many urged him to postpone Coolie to avoid splitting the box office. Some even speculated that his sudden social media exit was a move to avoid the growing heat and negativity surrounding the clash.
However, as of now Coolie is ahead in terms of buzz and hype as nothing has yet come out from WAR 2. Not even a poster. The hype as of now is just to see Hrithik and NTR together on the big screen.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s brand value, his teaming up with Rajinikanth, many cameos, posters, and teaser have created enough hype for Coolie.
Whether it’s a tactical break or just focus mode ahead of a mega release, no one knows for sure why Lokesh Kanagaraj went offline. One thing is clear though — all eyes are now on August 14. That’s when Coolie and War 2 go head-to-head in one of the biggest box office battles of the year.
