Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narasimha is enjoying a phenomenal run at the box office. Even after nearly a month in theatres, the film shows no signs of slowing down. The underwhelming performance of War 2 has only worked in its favour, pushing its collections closer to the Rs. 250-crore mark across languages. The film’s success is not restricted to India, as it is performing strongly in overseas markets too, especially in the US.
The Telugu version has already collected $944K in North America, which is remarkable for a dubbed animated film. In comparison, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s high-profile War 2 earned only $802K from its Telugu version. The contrast highlights just how well Mahavatar Narasimha is connecting with audiences.
A week ago, it seemed unlikely that War 2 would trail behind an animated film in the US. Yet Mahavatar Narasimha continues to surprise with steady growth week after week. If this trend continues, the Telugu dubbed version alone is poised to cross the $1 million milestone very soon.
On the flip side, Tollywood Tier-1 star NTR’s War 2 may not even reach one million in its Telugu version, which is a true shock to him. War 2 will mark the first disaster for NTR after Rabhasa (2014), his next is with most happening director Prashanth Neel’s Dragon.
