Mahayoddha Rama, a 3D animated feature based on the Ramayana, is set to release this Diwali on October 17, 2025. Produced by Contiloe Pictures and distributed by Cinepolis India, the film will be available in 3D along with other formats.
The voice cast includes Kunal Kapoor as Ram, Jimmy Shergill as Laxman, Mouni Roy as Sita, and Gulshan Grover as Ravana. The poster, showing a blue hand holding a bow against a black-and-white backdrop, has already caught attention. Javed Akhtar has written the lyrics, with Aadesh Shrivastava and Souvyk Chakraborty composing the music.
The project comes in the wake of Mahavatar Narsimha’s success, sparking comparisons and raising questions. Some fans worry the animated Ramayana might clash with Nitesh Tiwari’s live-action Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, slated for 2026 with a reported Rs 4000 crore budget.
While some audiences are concerned about the animated film diluting hype, others believe both projects can co-exist if Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana delivers with a strong trailer. Whether Mahayoddha Rama becomes a surprise hit like Mahavatar Narsimha or gets overshadowed by anticipation for Ranbir’s film remains to be seen.
