Apart from the two Telugu states, the US market is one key area where Telugu films get good revenue from. Lately, the trend is that the U.S distributors are going for early noon premiers unless they have little hope for their film and expect negative reviews.
But one should understand that there are a few category films that are no brainers and would mostly open with a positive talk. The same has happened with Adivi Sesh’s Major, based on a patriotic backdrop.
If there were early noon premiers, the early positive web reviews and buzz on social media would have attracted more people to walk in and book tickets for the evening premiere shows.
But strangely, the distributors of Major avoided early premieres, which could have resulted in some extra revenue. Now that the movie has opened to positive talk all over and is winning the appreciation for the attempt and subject, looks like the calculations of the distributors have gone wrong.
