One Kiss, So Much Noise: Naga Vamsi Responds

Producer Naga Vamsi has hit back at the trolling around the kissing scene in EPIC, making it clear that he does not want the film to be judged by one intimate moment.

Vamsi says the film has far more going for it, with Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya’s relationship forming the heart of the story. He even believes audiences can enjoy EPIC with their families.

But there is one obvious catch.

EPIC is A-certified. So while adults can certainly watch it together as a family, parents cannot take their children along. That makes the “family film” pitch quite different from the usual all-age theatrical experience.

This becomes even more noticeable because director Aditya Hasan earned a clean family image with 90s. EPIC is taking him into a more mature space, dealing with a live-in relationship, intimacy and the complications that come with it.

The kissing scene may have triggered the noise, but Vamsi’s comments suggest the makers want audiences to look beyond it. Now the real test is whether EPIC can win over adults without needing the controversy to sell the film.
