North America: Pushpa 2 Will Be the First to Test This Scenario

Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 is riding on massive hype, and the figures demanded for overseas rights by the makers are shockingly high, being negotiated around 80- 90 crores.

Looking at the history of blockbuster films in the North American market, only one film has successfully drawn audiences from two languages to theaters—Baahubali 2, which grossed $20 million.

Baahubali 2 pulled in $6,322,218 from its 2D Hindi version, with the IMAX Hindi version making $250,140.

No other pan-India blockbuster has generated this level of revenue from both languages (Telugu+Hindi). Even RRR only earned $2.9 million from the Hindi version (RRR made around $14 million).

As of now, Salaar is expected to pull only Telugu audiences in America.

Given the price demanded for Pushpa 2, it must perform exceptionally well in both Telugu and Hindi languages in North America to reach the breakeven mark; otherwise, achieving breakeven will be nearly impossible.

Pushpa 2 will be the first non-Rajamouli film to test this scenario, for two reasons:

– Huge price quoted by the makers
– Pushpa 2 has genuine buzz in Hindi, aside from Telugu.

If Pushpa 2 manages to pull Hindi audiences to theaters in the U.S. and Canada like a blockbuster stright Hindi film, it stands to have an incredible run, considering the large Hindi population in North America, where Hindi films often enjoy long run.

However, if things go awry, it will be a regrettable scenario.
