Director Vetrimaaran and actor Simbu are teaming up for a new film in the Vada Chennai universe, titled Arasan in Tamil and Samrajyam in Telugu. The big talking point is Jr. NTR launching the Telugu promo.
During Devara promotions in Chennai, NTR had openly expressed interest in working with Vetrimaaran, even stating he wouldn’t mind doing a Tamil film. Vetrimaaran also confirmed discussions about future collaborations once their current films are complete.
However, NTR’s ambitions have shifted significantly. After the WAR 2 debacle, he has become extra cautious before taking unnecessary and unwanted risks with zero or less benefits. His lineup now includes Prashanth Neel’s Dragon and possibly a film with Jailer director Nelson. Considering Vetrimaaran’s style, he might no longer be the director NTR wants to collaborate with. The Telugu promo launch of Arasan appears to be more a mark of respect and a mere formality than a genuine collaboration.
Sources suggest that NTR is showing courtesy toward Vetrimaaran by participating in the promo launch while having no concrete plans to work on a full film together at present. For a star hero like NTR, a director like Vetrimaaran might not align with his current pan-India ambitions.
Industry insiders believe this promo launch is symbolic. NTR cannot afford to gamble on a project with Vetrimaaran right now. His focus remains on large-scale pan-India ventures. A full-fledged project between NTR and Vetrimaaran might never materialize in the current scenario.
The Telugu promo launch is therefore a nod to industry courtesy rather than a step toward a new collaboration.
