One More Major COVID Vaccine Trials Paused

Johnson & Johnson temporarily paused its COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials after one of its participants reported unexplained illness. Experts and the company says this is a routine procedure. This is a study pause and is different from a regulatory hold by the authorities. It is not known when the trials will be resumed.

“We are reviewing the illness data. Independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board as well as the company’s clinical and safety physicians will be evaluating the data,” the company announced in a statement. The details of the illness are not revealed due to privacy concerns.

It is also known to our readers that AstraZeneca – Oxford University Vaccine also had a brief pause after one of its participants reported an unexplained illness in the United Kingdon. While trials in the UK, Brazil, South Africa, and India have resumed, the US trial is still on hold pending a regulatory review.

There are 37.8 Million confirmed cases across the globe. While 26.3 Million have recovered, there were 1.08 Million fatalities. India is one of the worst-affected countries with 7.18 Million cases and 110K deaths.
