One of the biggest blockbuster of all time in the history of Indian cinema is unfolding in theatres in the form of Dhurandhar 2. The makers had confirmed that the film had collected over ₹1500 crore at the global box office and it’s still running in theatres.
This might be a pretty significant number at the global box office but there is more potential to be milked here.
The extremely elongated runtime of four hours is the first detrimental factor. On the other hand, we have the ongoing IPL, which became a huge enemy for this Ranveer Singh film in the end.
People did not expect IPL to be a mainstream detractor for Dhurandhar 2 but this actually turned out to be working against the film fundamentally. The weak evening and night shows during the IPL hours are clearly suggesting the same.
If this IPL is really consequential, then it needs to be said that the upcoming biggie from Telugu cinema Peddi must also be careful. If a film as big as Dhurandhar 2 with so much public agenda and sequel hype is suffering the wrath, the chances are Peddi might also face the heat.
But there is another factor to be noted here, and this is something to do with the ongoing postponement rumors about Peddi. If the film actually goes on to skip the April 30 slot, then there is not much of a problem here.
And even so, the Telugu audience are not particularly influenced by the IPL and the domestic revenues might not be too affected by the tournament. Telugu is anyway, a front loaded market and the majority of the lifting will be done in the first week itself.
But the difference will come in the crucial Hindi market as this is where IPL could have an impact like what we have observed in the case of Dhurandhar 2. It has to be seen how the team would deal with this situation now.
