Andhra Pradesh used to do roaring business for star hero films before Jagan’s government. But after Jagan came into power, the Andhra box office business plummeted due to reduced ticket prices.
During YS Jagan’s tenure, the Telugu film industry faced a significant challenge with government-mandated ticket prices in cinema halls and multiplexes, which created an uproar during the release of Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab.
The YSRCP administration’s refusal to allow ticket price increases compounded the industry’s difficulties over time. The situation went from bad to worse as days passed on.
With Jagan’s recent humiliating defeat and Chandrababu Naidu coming to power in the recent AP assembly elections, there is renewed optimism for Andhra Pradesh’s box office.
The top opening day gross in Andhra (not including Ceded):
1. RRR – ₹49 cr
2. Baahubali 2 – ₹35 cr
3. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy – ₹31 cr
3. Salaar – ₹29 cr
4. Saaho – ₹28 cr
Now, as the Jagan Era concludes, expectations are high for a resurgence in Andhra’s cinema revenues. The upcoming release of the hugely anticipated KALKI 2898 AD is expected to achieve a gross of around ₹40 crore, signaling a return to record-breaking numbers for the region.
This welcome shift in leadership has raised hopes for a revitalized entertainment sector and a promising future for the film industry in Andhra Pradesh.
