Iran and Tollywood are turning into an unexpected combination on social media. After bringing Balakrishna into the conversation, an Iranian diplomatic mission has now gone back to Telugu cinema with Prabhas and Baahubali.

The latest post from Iran’s Consulate in Hyderabad features one of the iconic battle sequences from Baahubali: The Beginning, with Prabhas taking on the Kalakeya army. The clip was shared alongside a message echoing Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent UN address, where he stressed that Iran would not bow under pressure.

What makes the post interesting for Tollywood is that this is not Iran’s first recent trip to Telugu cinema. Earlier, Iran’s Zimbabwe mission used a Bhagavanth Kesari clip featuring Balakrishna while taking a swipe at Donald Trump’s remarks on Iran. That post even triggered a wave of reactions after the embassy mistakenly referred to the Telugu film as Bollywood.

Now Prabhas has entered the picture, and the choice of Baahubali feels particularly apt for the message being delivered. The film’s large-scale battle imagery gives the diplomatic statement a distinctly cinematic punch.

So, what started as an unexpected Balakrishna reference has now moved to Prabhas. Iranian diplomatic social-media accounts clearly seem to have discovered the impact of Telugu cinema, turning Tollywood stars and scenes into an unusual part of their messaging during the ongoing US-Iran tensions.
