The Kannada film industry was alien to most people in the country before KGF happened in 2018. Except for a film or two, Kannada films never penetrated other language markets. But Prashanth Neel changed the scenario with his period gangster drama, KGF.
If KGF was just a trailer, then with KGF 2, Prashanth Neel showed the stamina of Kannada cinema. It created wonders at the box office and delivered better numbers than even Rajamouli’s RRR by collecting Rs. 450+ crores in Hindi.

But the real litmus test of Prashanth Neel begins now. It will be interesting to see how Prashanth Neel will deliver a film outside the KGF universe. He is now coming up with Salaar starring Prabhas.
It is evident that Salaar is having a slight hangover of KGF in terms of look and ambiance. Prashanth Neel has to prove to his detractors that he is much capable of delivering a film that is not on the lines of KGF, or else he will be branded as a director who cannot think beyond the KGF brand of cinema.

Salaar has a tremendous craze not only in the South but on a pan-India level. The film is sure to take the biggest opening ever across the country and even overseas.
So Prashanth Neel has this challenge of delivering a film as powerful and successful as KGF but not similar to KGF. If he can do that with Salaar, there will be no looking back.
