What can be termed as a very cheap behaviour, Principal of the tribal welfare girls residential school in Zaddangi in the agency area of East Godavari district is said to be maintaining a record of menstrual cycles of girl students and is periodically conducting pregnancy tests on suspicious girls. It is said that the Principal CH Sunder Rao along with a local nurse is keeping a tab on the girl students preventing them from having affaits with male teachers of the school.
The issue surfaced when the principal questioned a 13 years girl “Are you getting your periods regularly” and further sent the nurse along with her to the toilet to verify if she is telling the truth. The embarrassed girl took up the issue with the local MLA when the latter is there for a routine check.
The student claimed that she had previously complained to the Mandal education officer and the assistant tribal welfare officer regarding the issue but no action was taken. The AP state commission for protection of child rights had initiated an inquiry in to the case for a serious child rights violation.
