Puri’s Pan-India Hope Still Alive?

Puri JagannadhRam Pothineni and director Puri Jagannadh team up again for Double iSmart, a pan-Indian sequel to the hit iSmart Shankar. This is Puri’s project after the unforgettable fiasco, Liger, which brought him immense shame and losses.

Last time, Puri brought Mike Tyson on board for Liger to attract audiences on a pan-India level. Upon its theatrical release, audiences were disgusted with the way Tyson’s character turned out to be a caricature and a waste of his talent.

Now Puri has brought Sanjay Dutt to Double iSmart in the role of Big Bull. Sanjay Dutt is way past his prime, and as a stand-alone star, he doesn’t add much to the film’s box office prospects. He can be used as padding for already star-studded films like KGF, Leo, or Jawan.

But for a Ram Pothineni film directed by Puri Jagan, Dutt’s addition doesn’t carry much weight. The script by Puri has to be extraordinary this time to make the film a success on a pan-India level, and he cannot depend on Sanjay Dutt to bring the Hindi audience in.

Under the Puri Connects banner, Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur produce Double iSmart. The movie is set to release on March 8, 2024.
