War 2 vs Pushpa 2: Allu Arjun Leads with Triple Margin

Pushpa 2 and War 2 were both highly anticipated pan India sequels with massive budgets, wide fan bases, and Telugu superstars leading the push into the Hindi market. Both films had blockbuster first parts in Hindi. Both relied on their lead stars’ regional appeal to draw pan India audiences, with Allu Arjun after Pushpa 1 and Jr. NTR after RRR. Given these similarities, a box office comparison is fair and logical.

Pushpa 2 set the benchmark extremely high. It collected Rs. 65 crores in Hindi on its first day. Its Day 1 worldwide gross reached an astonishing Rs. 257 crores. These numbers were unprecedented. Trade analysts believed only War 2, with the combined star power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR and the SPY Universe brand, had the potential to challenge them. War 2 was hyped as the only film that could challenge Pushpa 2’s first day records, especially in Hindi.

Initial predictions were quite optimistic, with expectations of Rs. 60 crore net in Hindi on Day 1 and even a worst-case scenario of Rs. 50 crores. However, as promotional material emerged, cracks in the film’s appeal became evident. The trailers, teasers, and songs failed to generate excitement audiences were hoping for. Fans still hoped for a Rs. 40-crore opening in Hindi despite these early warning signs.

Reality struck hard when advance bookings came in. And after release, all hopes collapsed further. War 2 collected only around Rs. 28 to Rs. 30 crores in Hindi on Day 1. This was not just underwhelming but also an outright and brutal rejection from audiences toward the actors, the makers, and the SPY Universe. Every prediction, every hype piece, every confident fan claim came crashing down.

Worldwide, War 2 managed only about 30 percent of Pushpa 2’s Day 1 collections and less than 40 percent in the Hindi market. If we take only the first day into account, Pushpa 2 leads War 2 by a triple margin.

For a film built on massive expectations, star power, and a successful franchise, this performance is embarrassing. Pushpa 2 proved that audiences reward energy, drama, and substance, not just a cash grab sequel relying on a franchise. War 2 will likely be remembered as a warning. It is a film that had everything going for it on paper but faltered spectacularly in execution.
