The makers of Allu Arjun and Sukumar’s Pushpa 2 had previously announced that the film is set for release on the 15th of this August, marking the occasion of Independence Day. Cut to now, there are reports from Bollywood media outlets that Pushpa 2’s release has been postponed.
If this report from a reputed Bollywood outlet is indeed to be believed and Pushpa 2 does get postponed, what could be the scenario?
For starters, 15 August slot is desired by everyone. Being a pan Indian film, Pushpa 2 will hope to have a good run in each and every language, given the wide reach the first part got.
Hindi Film Singham Again has already locked 15 August as the release date and this is in direct competition with Pushpa 2. There will be multiple new releases in almost every language including Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and others, which could potentially eat into the prospects of Pushpa 2. So a postponement to a better date with solo release in every possible language is not the worst thing to happen.
But on the other hand, if we observe with the cases of RRR and Salaar, the postponements hampered their buzz. Both the films had monstrous hype by the time of the original release and unexpectedly, RRR got postponed due to Covid, and Salaar postponed due to post-production delay. The films did start on a bright note, but had they released on original dates with the hype they had, the numbers would’ve been bigger.
Now the same thing might happen with Pushpa 2 as well. A postponement could well tone down the hype to a certain degree. That said, nothing is for certain for now. The makers of Pushpa 2 haven uttered any words regarding the postponement rumors. So, we are better off waiting for clarification on the same.
