Radhika Apte has opened up about a disturbing experience from her time working in the South Indian film industry. Her revelations have sparked strong reactions among fans and social media users.
In a recent interview, Radhika spoke about a phase when she was not financially stable. During that period, she accepted multiple South Indian film projects to sustain her career.
While she acknowledged that the industry has contributed many memorable films to Indian cinema, she said one particular project left her deeply uncomfortable. She described the working environment on that set as extremely difficult.
Radhika revealed that the shoot took place in a small village. She was the only woman on set, and her entire team consisted of men.
While preparing for her role, the makers allegedly asked her to add padding to her clothes. They wanted her chest and buttocks to appear fuller, and kept demanding more padding despite her discomfort.
She said the pressure continued until she finally told the director that she would not use any padding at all. This moment marked her breaking point on the set.
What made the situation worse was that she was not allowed to bring her own team. A group of men repeatedly pressured her to alter her body’s appearance, which left her feeling unsafe.
Radhika also shared that vulgar jokes and disrespectful remarks were frequently made about her. She stressed that no one should have to face such behaviour in any workplace.
Although the South Indian film industry has evolved over the years, these revelations remain deeply concerning. Radhika is now in a much stronger place in her career, but her experience highlights issues that may still exist across film industries today.
