Rahman supports songs culture in our cinema

Double Oscar-winning composer A.R Rahman feels that Indian cinema should never do away with songs and dance culture because it makes audience connect with the film more on an emotional level and makes viewers watch a film more than once. Rahman, who is currently awaiting the release of his next English film ‘Million Dollar Arm’, a sports-drama with an underdog story.

He said our audiences have got used so used to humming to songs, lip syncing to the voices of singer that they like to revisit a film because it has songs and dance but when a film doesn’t have all that, they’ll probably watch it once and not watch again. Therefore, he strongly feels that songs should always be part of Indian films, but they should not come between the narrative of the story, never break the flow.

Rahman says the music of ‘Million Dollar Arm’ will supersede his Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and set new standards in music composing for western films.
