Back in 2018, Netflix announced that it would be producing Baahubali: Before the Beginning, a 9-part web series which is a prequel to the epic Baahubali duology. Promising filmmakers Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru were roped in to helm the project and Netflix allotted a huge budget to the same. Then came an unforeseen decision from Netflix.
The OTT giant called off the project and scrapped it after close to 80% of the filming was complete. It was said that Netflix team was utterly disappointed with the output and opined it would not just disappoint global audiences but also damage the legacy built by master craftsman Rajamouli.
Now, Netflix has revamped the project and reconstructed it from scratch. They onboarded a writing team and completed the scripting very recently. Kunal Deshmukh of Jannat fame and Ribhu Gupta who helmed The Girl on The Train were signed to take over the directorial reins. The director duo will now be handling the project and the filming will commence this September. Up and coming actress Wamiqa Gabbi has been roped in to play the role of Sivagami. Also, Netflix has assigned a special team to monitor the production right from the start in order to ensure the quality of the output.
Rajamouli’s attention for detail and impeccable storytelling skills paired with grandeur and stellar performances from the lead cast made the Baahubali duology a masterpiece. The Rajamouli syndrome has gripped Netflix now and they want nothing but the very best for Baahubali: Before the Beginning series.
