After delivering flops and average films for more than a decade, Superstar Rajinikanth finally delivered a resounding blockbuster with Jailer. The film satisfied not only his fans but also the neutral audience who wanted to watch a film just for entertainment without any agenda.
In the past few years, Rajinikanth had slipped into doing films that had a particular agenda attached to them. Especially Kabali and Kaala, directed by Pa. Ranjith.
Those films were neither entertaining nor brought any revolution in cinema or society. The core fan base of Rajinikanth was also disappointed with such films, which rubbed agenda on the faces of the audience in the garb of a superstar film.
After Jailer, it was expected that Rajinikanth would realize the importance of doing crowd-pleasing mass films that would entertain all. But now it is reported that Rajinikanth’s next, Thalaivar170, will be directed by Jai Bhim director TJ Gnanavel.
Jai Bhim was a good movie and did well as a direct OTT release. But such films usually don’t rake in huge numbers at the box office. On top of it, such films try to make a political statement that would offend some and keep a section of the audience away.
Let’s hope Rajinikanth isn’t treading the wrong path again by doing a film with TJ Gnanavel, whose films generally carry an agenda with them. Reportedly, Thalaivar170 also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Sharwanand.
