The much-awaited trailer of Ramayana has finally arrived, and as expected, it has sparked massive discussion across social media.
The VFX, CGI, and production design look world-class, making it one of the most visually ambitious Indian films ever made. Director Nitesh Tiwari’s vision and producer Namit Malhotra’s scale are evident in almost every frame.
Among the cast, Yash makes the biggest impact. His Ravana looks menacing, commanding, and larger than life.
Ranbir Kapoor, as Lord Rama, delivers a sincere performance. However, a section of viewers feels he hasn’t completely embodied the aura and divine presence associated with the character. In several moments, Yash’s Ravana appears more powerful on screen than Ranbir’s Rama.
Sai Pallavi looks graceful as Sita and suits the role well, though the trailer offers only brief glimpses of her character.
While the visuals are spectacular, many viewers feel the trailer lacks the emotional weight expected from the Ramayana. The dialogues don’t leave a lasting impact, and the storytelling appears to focus more on spectacle than soul. For a story known for its emotional depth, this has become one of the biggest talking points.
Another complaint is the casting of Vivek Oberoi and Lara Dutta. A section of social media users feels both actors look out of place in their respective roles, fail to bring the required authenticity and impact, and appear unintentionally funny.
Some viewers also believe the narrative style appears to be designed with international audiences in mind, giving it a more global fantasy feel than a traditionally Indian retelling of the epic.
Rakul Preet Singh‘s glamorous Shurpanakha has unexpectedly become one of the trailer’s biggest talking points. While some trolled her performance as slightly theatrical, many young male fans loved her bold screen presence. One viral social media comment even joked that “she looks like she can eat ten Sai Pallavis for breakfast,” highlighting how dominant and glamorous Rakul appears compared to Sai Pallavi‘s soft and serene Sita. Whether intentional or not, Shurpanakha seems to have stolen plenty of attention in the trailer.
Overall, the trailer succeeds in creating excitement. But whether it can deliver the emotional depth, powerful dialogues, and spiritual impact that define the Ramayana will only become clear when the film releases. The visuals have won the first round. Now the story has to do the rest.
