Official: Ram Charan Isn’t a ‘Global Star’ Anymore

Ram Charan Peddi title change

Peddi, starring Ram Charan in the lead, is progressing swiftly with its shoot in Sri Lanka. The makers recently released the first look of Janhvi Kapoor, who plays Achiyyamma, a cricket commentator. The film is set for a worldwide release on March 27, 2026.

The big talking point has been Ram Charan dropping the “Global Star” tag and returning to his earlier title, Mega Power Star. Many are surprised that he agreed to the “Global Star” label in the first place.

After RRR achieved international success, his team tried branding him as a global star with strong worldwide reach. But several viewers felt the title was exaggerated. Many believed he still needed more consistent global hits and a stronger legacy before using such a tag.

Even legends like Shah Rukh Khan rarely use the global star label despite decades of both domestic and overseas success. So calling Ram Charan one felt forced and soon became a topic of mockery on social media, especially after Acharya and Game Changer failed at the box office. Ram Charan appears to have taken the feedback and removed the tag.

While dropping it is seen as a sensible move, some are questioning why he reverted to Mega Power Star instead of simply going with his name Ram Charan. Many feel that dropping titles entirely would have set a solid example for the industry.

So far, the makers of Peddi have introduced four key characters:

Ram Charan as Peddi
Janhvi Kapoor as Achiyyamma
Shiva Rajkumar as Gour Naidu
Divyendu as Ram Bujji

The next reveal is expected to feature Jagapathi Babu.
