The remake of the 1973 super hit film Zanzeer has been on the go for a while. The recent update regarding the making of this film suggests that the famous qawwali song Yaari hai imaan mera sung by Manna Dey from the original film will not make to its new version. Sources suggest that even as the makers wanted to reprise the song, they failed to acquire the rights from the music label HMV (now known as Sa Re Ga Ma).
Director Apoorva Lakhia when contacted about the issue said that, “HMV has the rights and the price they are quoting is very high. We couldn’t afford it. Bhusan Kumar (head of T-Series) has already selected a new qawwali song. We haven’t decided on a music director yet,” says Lakhia.
The remake of Zanjeer, featuring Priyanka Chopra alongside Tollywood actor Ram Charan Teja is scheduled to hit the theatres on May 10.
