Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana has crossed $517K in US premiere advance sales, but the numbers reveal a worrying gap between its global ambitions and the response across different formats and languages. With 11 days left before the premieres, the film has sold 23,319 tickets across 1,729 shows.
The current trend is similar to Dhurandhar 2, but the expectations for Ramayana are on another level. For a film planned on such a massive scale, the advance sales so far look underwhelming.
IMAX is doing most of the heavy lifting. The format has collected $353,121 from 14,802 tickets, accounting for around 68% of the total US advance gross. IMAX occupancy stands at 16%, compared with just 3% for standard screens. XD has collected $47,382 at 14% occupancy, while D-Box has reached 18% occupancy.
The numbers show that premium-format audiences are driving current sales.
The language breakdown is even more striking. Hindi has generated $502,138, almost the entire advance gross. Telugu has collected just $6,113, while English stands at $9,103. The Kannada version has sold zero tickets in the current snapshot.
This has triggered trolling from some fans, who are questioning the value Yash brings to the project if the Kannada version cannot attract advance bookings in the US. Some are also questioning whether the makers can recover the effort and money spent on Telugu and Kannada dubbing.
However, 11 days remain before the premieres, and these figures can change significantly.
As of now, California leads the state-wise breakdown with $100,991, followed by Texas at $79,935. New York has collected $39,854, while New Jersey stands at $33,104.
Expectations were that Ramayana would achieve $5 million from US premieres and Day 1 alone. With current advance sales at $517K, the film still has a long way to go. The big question is whether the remaining days can deliver the massive jump needed to get anywhere close to that target.
