Ramzan fast can have reverse effect!

Haleem season is approaching in Hyderabad as we near Ramzan month. Most Haleem outlets start operating from 19th of this month i.e., exactly one month before Ramzan. However diet experts say fasting in Ramzan will not result in weight loss all of the time but also can be in reverse with the huge intake of Biryani and Haleem.

Experts say both who feast on haleem and biryani actually gain weight as they are rich in fat and carbohydrates. Instead, those on fast are recommended to eat healthy and nutritious alternative foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, stuffed parathas or rotis, chicken, fish, dal or vegetable soup during the fasting days.

Doctors also say that Lower calorie intake, fluid deprivation and a slight increase in exercise (often due to the Tarawih prayers) will result in weight loss for some who fast in Ramzan season but it is temporary and most people tend to regain the weight within two to four weeks after the fasting ends.
