Rape victim forced to deliver unwanted child!

The Gujarat high court confirmed that the courts can not give permission to abortion of rape survivors if the pregnancy is beyond 20 weeks. It is illegal in the country to terminate a pregnancy if it is beyong 20 weeks unless due to some medical problems. Gujarat high court applied the same to a rape victim who is 28 weeks pregnant when applied for the permission.

The court directed the collector to ensure that woman is provided proper medical care towards a safe delivery and the child is not abandoned. While the court said that their sympathies are with the victim but she should understand that abortion at the stage may even endanger her own life.

The rape victim is already married and is with two kids. Nobody in the family wants this kid. But the survivor promised that she would abide the court’s order and give birth to the child.
