Spirit vs Ramayana 2: Prabhas-Vanga Walking into a Trap?

Prabhas is heading towards another massive box-office clash, with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit scheduled to release on October 29, 2027, around the Diwali festive season. Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Part 2 is also planned for a Diwali release, setting the stage for a potential clash between two of the biggest films in Indian cinema.

The first part of Ramayana is scheduled to release on November 5, 2026. If it becomes a massive box-office success, expectations for the sequel will skyrocket. This could make Spirit’s release timing a big challenge for Prabhas and Vanga.

The box-office result of Ramayana Part 1 could play a key role in building hype for the sequel. And if, by any chance, the first instalment receives a poor response, the excitement around Part 2 could take a massive hit. Perhaps Vanga is hoping that Ramayana Part 2 will not generate enough hype to pose a serious threat to Spirit.

However, that would be a risky assumption. Ramayana is reportedly being made on a massive budget of around Rs. 4,000 crores across its two parts. Even if the first instalment delivers a decent run instead of becoming a record-breaking blockbuster, the scale of the project and the hype surrounding the epic could still make Part 2 a massive theatrical event.

There is also the question of production delays. Ramayana relies heavily on visual effects, and completing a film of this scale could take longer than expected. If Part 2 gets delayed, its release could move to 2028, completely changing the box-office equation.

Another possibility is that Ramayana Part 2 will arrive on Ram Navami 2028.

Sandeep Vanga might have had discussions with the Ramayana makers before deciding to release Spirit during Diwali 2027. Plus, Vanga can never afford to clash with Ranbir Kapoor, as he has to make Animal Park with him next.

On the other hand, Vanga is also famous for moving his films according to his comfort, so he could decide to move the film to another date depending on production progress, the competition and the overall release calendar.

However, both films have the potential to set the box office on fire. But if they arrive during the same festive window, the battle for screens, audience attention and box-office records could be very interesting. Neither Prabhas nor Ranbir Kapoor will have an easy ride if this clash becomes a reality.
