Outspoken Producer K. Rajan Dies by Suicide in Chennai

The Tamil film fraternity has been thrown into deep shock following the sudden death of veteran film producer and director K. Rajan. The 85-year-old industry veteran tragically died by suicide on Sunday evening by jumping into the Adyar River from the Thiru-Vi-Ka bridge in Chennai.

According to preliminary police statements, Rajan arrived at the scene with his personal driver and stepped out under the pretext of taking a routine walk. Moments later, he took the extreme step, jumping off the bridge. Fire and rescue services quickly recovered his body and shifted it to the Royapettah Government Hospital.

Rajan was widely celebrated as a fierce, fearless voice who routinely slammed the structural unprofitability of modern Tamil cinema. He continually fought for small-budget films, relentlessly attacking the star-centric economic model and soaring actor remunerations that frequently pushed producers into deep financial ruins.
