Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj, with just a few films like ‘Kaithi,’ ‘Vikram,’ and ‘Leo,’ lifted the Tamil industry from a slump. He is seen as the only potential Tamil director who can deliver a massive pan-India film in the future.
He has a special knack for racy action screenplay and is directly influencing a few Telugu directors.
We recently have two examples – Sailesh Kolanu, who made ‘Saindhav,’ and Karthik Gattamneni, who recently delivered ‘Eagle’ with Ravi Teja.
Setting aside the box office failures of these films, one can’t overlook the influence or inspiration they took from Lokesh Kanagaraj.
There is nothing wrong with being influenced, but when someone takes inspiration, they should first ensure that their core (drama and emotion) is in the right place.
Focusing too much on action will never yield good results. If only action works, these two films prove the same point.
Also, even though the action sequences are decent in both Sailesh Kolanu’s ‘Saindhav’ and Karthik Gattamneni’s ‘Eagle,’ they are not on the same level as Lokesh Kanagaraj’s.
It is better to stop mimicking Lokesh and identify their own strengths to captivate audiences.
