Nani vs Vijay Deverakonda: Who’s Telangana Slang Better?

Regional slang can make a performance feel real. But when an actor tries too hard to perfect a dialect, the same effort can become distracting. This is now an interesting discussion around Nani’s The Paradise and Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali.

Vijay has faced trolling in the past because some viewers felt his Telangana influence was too obvious in his films. His dialogue delivery as Arjuna in Kalki 2898 AD also became a talking point.

Ranabaali, however, gives Vijay a character that naturally fits the Telangana dialect. He plays a freedom fighter from Telangana, and many viewers feel he has settled into the slang well.

But some viewers are still not convinced. Some social media users feel Vijay is pushing the dialect too hard, making certain dialogues sound exaggerated rather than authentic. A convincing regional accent should disappear into the character. If the audience starts noticing the actor’s effort behind every line, the performance can start feeling forced.

Nani is facing a similar discussion with The Paradise. His Telangana slang in the teaser received mixed reactions. The intensity in his dialogue delivery was appreciated by some, but others felt the modulation was too loud and unclear. Instead of sounding naturally rooted, certain portions reportedly came across more like shouting and noise. Since The Paradise is heavily dependent on its period setting and characters, dialogue authenticity will be crucial.

However, a teaser cannot give the full picture. A dialogue that sounds excessive in a two-minute video can work much better in the actual scene when the character, emotion, and situation support it.

That is why the final verdict cannot come from social media reactions alone.

The real test is simple. When audiences watch The Paradise and Ranabaali, will they hear Nani and Vijay trying to speak Telangana slang, or will they simply hear the characters?

That difference can decide whether the dialect feels authentic or forced.
