This has triggered Kannada-speaking people, as they claim that Kamal Haasan’s statement is incorrect and that Kannada was not born in Tamil.

Many Kannadigas protested against the actor, and now the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has announced that Thug Life will be banned if Kamal Haasan doesn’t apologize regarding this language issue.

Kamal Haasan, before the KFCC announcement, stated at a Thug Life promotional event that he won’t apologize, and what he mentioned about the Kannada language is what language experts and historians have taught him.

Even though this is an unnecessary controversy, it is keeping the film in the news and generating significant buzz for free.

However, this controversy is only within Karnataka, so it may not even affect the film’s overall success, and it is not a major issue for the movie. Also, it will not escalate further, as it may be resolved before the release, according to trade experts.

It remains to be seen whether Kamal Haasan will apologize for this ongoing issue in public and whether Thug Life will have a smooth release in Karnataka on June 5th.
