There are often times where dubbed films occasionally strike gold at the box office. The likes of KGF, Kantara, and Jailer are such rare examples.

But more often than not, these double films, generally go down the train as the Telugu audience have gradually lost interest in this space. One such film that has fallen prey to the declining interest is Thug Life.

Reportedly, hero Nithiin’s father Sudhakar Reddy bought the Telugu theatrical rights of this Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam film, and he is staring at pretty significant losses now.

Apparently, he had procured the film for ₹18 crore on advance basis. Given the massive number that is in effect for the film, it needed a pretty strong start at the box office.

However, the film went South right from the opening day and the returns are abysmal to say the least. Reportedly the film collected ₹1 crore on its opening day in the Telugu states.

With nearly 5% recovery on the opening day, this film is now heading for humongous losses as not even release and publicity cost are likely to be covered in the Telugu language.

The legacy of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan is long gone case and one can only wonder what instigated Sudhakar Reddy to pay such a huge price for this film knowing full well about the current situation of the theatrical market.
