Shah Rukh Khan made one of the greatest comebacks with two back-to-back 1000-crore grossers Pathaan and Jawan this year. He reclaimed his throne in Bollywood and became the number 1 star at the box office.
If there was any other star who could have given a tough competition to SRK then it was Salman Khan with Tiger 3. The film had everything going for it– a huge budget, the biggest production house, a much-hyped spy universe, a superb star cast, a festive season release, cameos from Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, a free run of 3 weeks. But despite these factors, the film has bitten the dust.
After a decent start and a good second day, the film has seen a downward trend and is already breathing its last at the box office. The film has collected 200 crores net till now in India and will wrap up under 280 crores. Forget Pathaan, Tiger 3 will do a business of 60 crores less than even its predecessor Tiger Zinda Hai released in 2017. The film’s business overseas is also dismal and will wrap under $15 Million worldwide.
The World Cup fever has dented its collection but it cannot be termed as an excuse for its poor performance. Salman Khan has lost a bit of a craze due utter crap films he has been doing for the last 6 years. He has lost the trust of the neutral audience and the poor script, boring narration, and unexciting direction in Tiger 3 further ruined the film’s prospects.
After Tiger 3 it is once again proved that Shah Rukh Khan is right now untouchable in Bollywood. He is not just number 1 today, but he is the Number 1 to Number 5.
Shah Rukh Khan is going to compete with only Shah Rukh Khan again this year with Dunki directed by Raj Kumar Hirani all set to release on December 21.
Currently, Aamir Khan is out of the race after “Laal Singh Chaddha.” Hrithik Roshan, though possessing stardom comparable to SRK, struggles with inconsistent film choices and lengthy gaps. His upcoming film “Fighter” looks exciting, however.
Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn never came close to the top spot. Ranbir Kapoor appears promising among newer actors, and others still have a long way to go.
In the overseas market, Shah Rukh Khan has always been the biggest star ever, and he is the undisputed number 1 to number 10. So Bollywood is back to the SRK-ruled era.
