Too Many Hits Killing Superstar’s Film?

Fighter

Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan’s latest theatrical outing, Fighter is set for its release on the 25th of this month. Despite being an actioner, having a big cast, and being directed by Siddharth Anand who last delivered blockbuster Pathan, the film is opening on a below-par note at the box office.

Fighter is likely to open in the range of Rs 20 crore in India which is a very ordinary number for a film that has so much commercial appeal.

One theory that is being spun about the underperforming Fighter is that Bollywood has seen too many hits in 2023. Films like Pathan, Jawan, Animal, Gadar 2, Tiger 3, and others have minted big revenues all through the course of 2023. Bollywood audience spent over Rs 5000 crores on films last year, as we reported earlier.

With so much box office hungama happening in 2023, there is no void for superstar films now. The audience have already charged up the superstar film meter and that is working against Fighter now.

This was seen in the case of Dunki itself. Despite being a collab of SRK and Hirani, this film grossly underdelivered. This indicated that the audience had already seen their share of big hero films. In the case of Fighter, the openings are much weaker than what was expected earlier. The frenzy of hits in 2023 is haunting Fighter now.
