The audience’s taste has evolved; it’s not just the youth but most movie lovers demanding directors to move away from formulaic mass templates. It doesn’t mean that these formulas never work; they do, depending on the release season. However, neither the actor nor the director will benefit much, even if the movie becomes a hit.
We have very few directors who fall under the ‘New Age Mass’ category. Currently, Kannada director Prashanth Neel and Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj are the only two in this category.

In the South, there are numerous top and successful directors, but they don’t fit into this new-age mass category:
-
- Trivikram Srinivas: Family dramas.
- Sukumar: Rustic stories.
- Koratala Siva: Social dramas.
- Shankar: Social dramas and sci-fi.
- Nelson: Routine action.
- Atlee: Routine action.
Now, with the release of the Animal trailer, there’s hope for a third entrant into this exciting new age mass category: Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Although the core plot in the Animal trailer isn’t groundbreaking, its ultra-modern presentation has worked wonders. Post-trailer, the film is set for a massive opening in Hindi and Telugu, and expectations are soaring.
If Sandeep Vanga delivers Animal up to expectations, matching the presentation seen in the trailer, there’s no doubt a new director will join this new age mass category, elevating into the top league. His next project, already secured with Prabhas’s Spirit, further reinforces this prospect.
