Toxic OTT: ZEE5 Offer Value Crashes by Shocking 80%?

Toxic was expected to be a huge blockbuster for Yash. Instead, the film’s disastrous theatrical performance has reportedly created another massive problem. Its digital rights are still unsold, and the difference between the OTT offer before release and the offers now being discussed is shocking.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the Toxic team had reportedly received an offer of around Rs. 150 crores from a leading streaming platform before the release. However, the makers wanted more than Rs. 200 crores. Yash was reportedly confident that Toxic would become a blockbuster in theatres and that a successful run would increase the value of the digital rights.

That gamble has completely backfired.

Toxic opened strongly with around Rs. 100 crores+ gross in India. But the film collapsed after the opening because of overwhelmingly negative audience talk. Its lifetime India gross is now expected to finish around Rs. 200 crores.

The poor theatrical performance has also hit the film’s OTT value badly. Streaming platforms are reportedly offering as little as Rs. 30 crores for the post-theatrical rights across all languages. ZEE5 is said to have made the biggest offer so far.

The fall is massive. The makers reportedly had a Rs. 150 crores offer in hand but rejected it while hoping to get more than Rs. 200 crores after a successful theatrical run. They are now looking at offers that could be 1/5th of what was available before release. That means an 80% reduction in price.

Satellite rights are also expected to bring in very little because Toxic is an adult-oriented gangster drama. The makers are reportedly considering a completely new edit for the OTT version to make the film more suitable for digital platforms and possibly improve the offer.

According to industry estimates, makers will lose around 300-400 crores overall making Toxic the biggest box office disaster of Indian cinema. Toxic was supposed to strengthen Yash’s position as a massive pan-Indian star after KGF 2. Instead, the film has reportedly lost heavily at the box office and seen its post-theatrical value crash as well.
