India’s Biggest Epic, “Ramayana,” has stirred up unprecedented excitement with its unimaginable casting choices. In October 2023, Nitesh Tiwari initiated talks with Sunny Deol for the role of Lord Hanuman, and after four months of extensive discussions, Sunny Deol is confirmed to portray this pivotal character.
The star-studded cast of “Ramayana” now includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi. Discussions are ongoing with Vijay Sethupathi for the role of Vibhishana while casting for other crucial characters is still in progress.
Examining the casting choices, it appears that the makers are strategically selecting stars based on the box office success of their last films.
Ranbir Kapoor, riding high on the success of “Animal,” is a sought-after star for Lord Rama’s role. Yash, acclaimed for his pan-India appeal in “KGF,” adds huge star power in the role of Ravana, while Sunny Deol’s return after “Gadar 2” places him back among the league of stars and he is an apt choice to play Hanuman. Vijay Sethupathi is a well-known name on the pan-India level after “Jawan.”
The film, set to be a three-part series, is entering its final stages of pre-production and is scheduled to commence shooting in March. The film is reportedly eyeing a Diwali 2025 release.
