Varun Tej seems to be lining up an interesting change of pace after experimenting with different genres in recent years. The latest buzz is that the Mega Prince could soon team up with Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj for a romantic drama.
According to the latest reports, Subbaraj is said to be planning a love story with Varun Tej in the lead. This is particularly interesting because the filmmaker is better known for stylish action dramas, revenge stories and unconventional characters. A full-fledged romantic film from him would therefore be a different outing.
The project is still at the discussion stage, and the makers are yet to officially announce the details. However this is not the first time the two names have been connected. Karthik Subbaraj was the writer of the original Jigarthanda, which was later remade in Telugu as Gaddalakonda Ganesh, starring Varun Tej. The 2019 film was directed by Harish Shankar, with Subbaraj receiving story credit.
Varun Tej, meanwhile, has several commitments lined up. He is expected to work on Bhari, a sports drama directed by Yadhu Vamsee and produced by his sister Niharika Konidela, before moving on to other projects.
For now, the romantic drama with Karthik Subbaraj remains an unconfirmed project. If the collaboration does materialise, it could give Varun Tej a completely different image while allowing Subbaraj to explore a genre that is not usually associated with his filmmaking style.
