Dhurandhar Miss, Now This: Nagarjuna Fans Feel Cheated?

Kalyan Krishna made a successful debut as a director with the blockbuster film Soggade Chinni Nayana. That film not only established him as a promising filmmaker but also gave Nagarjuna Akkineni one of the biggest hits of his career after many years.

After that film, Kalyan continued working within the Akkineni camp and directed Rarandoi Veduka Chudham with Naga Chaitanya, which also became a hit. Then he stepped outside the Akkineni family and made Nela Ticket with Ravi Teja. Unfortunately, that film turned out to be a washout at the box office. This disaster pushed him back toward the Akkineni camp.

Even then, his next project did not come easily. Bangarraju took years to materialize, as Nagarjuna did not approve it immediately. After many delays and speculations, the film finally released during Sankranthi 2022 but could only become an average grosser.

Later, Kalyan tried to work outside again and held discussions about remaking Bro Daddy with Chiranjeevi. He even prepared a script with his team, but the project never moved forward due to reasons unknown.

Just when it was assumed that he was gone, latest reports suggest that Annapurna Studios has signed him for Vasivaadi Thassadiyya, which is said to be in the same spirit as Soggade Chinni Nayana and Bangarraju. The film will feature Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya together again, and reliable sources confirm that Kalyan Krishna will direct it. The film is expected to release during Sankranthi 2027.

However, this development has not gone down well with fans. Many feel tired of seeing Nagarjuna in the same safe, comfort-zone entertainers. Recent reports suggested that Nagarjuna was offered Rahman Dakait’s role in Dhurandhar, which he rejected. Instead, he chose Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which backfired as his role failed to impress, while Dhurandhar went on to become a historic blockbuster and Rahman Dakait’s character achieved cult status.

Fans are now questioning Nagarjuna’s script sense. On top of that he has chosen a remake for his prestigious 100th film and now Vasivaadi Thassadiyya also sounds underwhelming on paper. While the project may perform well commercially during Sankranthi, fans aren’t thrilled.
