Big OTT Blow for Vijay’s Jana Nayagan: 120 Crores Gone?

Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan has reportedly suffered another massive blow due to delays in the censor certification process. The movie was initially expected to release earlier this year, but it has still not received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification. Because of this issue, the film has been stuck in the labs for nearly three months without moving forward toward release.

These delays have also affected the film’s digital streaming deal now. Earlier, the OTT rights were reportedly sold to Amazon Prime Video for around Rs. 120 crores, which was considered a huge deal. However, since the movie could not release within the planned timeline and is still waiting for censor approval, reports say Prime Video has withdrawn from the agreement.

The censor process became more complicated after the film was sent to the revising committee of the certification board for another review. The committee needed to watch the movie again before giving the final certificate. However, the screening was reportedly postponed at the last moment because one of the committee members fell ill. Because of such unexpected issues, the certification process has been delayed further, and the film’s release has been pushed indefinitely.

These delays are said to be creating financial pressure for producer K Venkat Narayana, who is producing the film under KVN Productions. Since Jana Nayagan is a big budget project, every delay means additional interest payments and increasing production costs.

The ongoing censor delays and the reported cancellation of the OTT deal have now created uncertainty about when Jana Nayagan will finally reach theatres. Vijay, who is reportedly facing trouble in his personal life due to divorce, is also dealing with problems surrounding the film’s release. With Jana Nayagan stuck in the censor process and the OTT deal also getting cancelled, it has turned into a series of setbacks. In a way, these developments look like back-to-back triple blows for Vijay.
