Vijayawada is no 1 for wrong reason!

The recent report of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for the year 2014 had revealed shocking facts about Vijayawada. The city tops the list of 53 mega cities in the country with 335 deaths due to drunken-driving. Vijayawada has more accidents as a consequence of motorists being under the influence of alcohol.

The report said 1553 such cases reported in Vijayawada during 2014 and 1578 injured in various accidents. The major cause of such accidents in Vijayawada is that two national highways which intersect at the busy Benz Circle. These two highways, NH-16 and NH-9 together have witnessed 842 accidents related to drunk-driving.

Interestingly most of these accidents twoo place between 9am and noon indicating that there are bigger problems. According to rules, liquor shops should not open before 11am, meaning that police failed to rein the shops in the city.
