As for the pilot project, the primary areas to be enabled with the Wi-Fi, with 1.2 gbps bandwidth, will enable folks to walk the entire 2km stretch of Ramakrishna Beach, Kailasagiri Hill, and VUDA Park. An official announcement was made that first 30 minutes Wi-Fi usage is free and people can buy a package for half an hour, or one hour, or one day. Tourists using the scratch card register their phone and they will have immediate access to 1gbps Wi-Fi.

This initiative has been started as a joint venture between QuadGen and BSNL with the services being managed by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. It is being speculated that this project will be a crucial step for Andhra Pradesh in its quest to gaining the Smart City status.
