Watch: Kamal Hassan On What It Takes For His Dream Project

M9 News Journalist Nishant sat with Universal Hero Kamal Hassan and Simbu in Chennai as their Thug Life is releasing on June 5th.

The conversation began with Nishant asking how it was collaborating with Mani Ratnam after three decades (Nayakudu) and how Kamal is the co-writer of the film.

“We checked many stories, but that did not happen. I told him the script I had with him. I told him either he or I should do it. He liked it. I can not say it is my story and he can not say it is his story,” Kamal Hassan said.

Simbu narrated how he watched Nayakan many times. “It is more exciting as a fan than an actor to see the legends coming together after Nayakan. What I should do and how I should act came next,” he said.

Kamal Hassan said that actors always know they are doing a good film. Maybe they can not predict if the movie will be a hit, but they will for sure know if it is a good film.

Having worked with directors like Shankar and Mani Ratnam back to back, we asked Kamal if he believes in form and if the directors of such calibre can really update to the current times.

“Form is not an issue, but one should update for sure. A good director is always a good director. Mani Ratnam is a legend, and he is still available. We should not allow him to take rest,” Kamal Hassan said.
