Whether it’s ‘U’ or title change for Surya’s movie?

Getting a tax exemption is one big solace for high budget movies which gamble with huge money. For Tamil movies made in Kollywood, there are two ways to avail the tax benefits. Either have a Tamil title or else get a ‘U’ certificate from the Censor Board. For those movies which have English titles and otherwise certified U/A or A, there is no question of tax exemption from Tamil Nadu government.

So for Suriya’s upcoming big budget movie ‘Masss’, the makers can’t avail tax benefits because of the non-Tamil title. Unless the makers are confident on aquiring an ‘U’ certificate from the Censor Board, they can’t be sure on getting the tax exemption.

We have to wait and see if ‘Masss’ remains the title of Suriya’s movie or else there would be last-minute title change. Paying huge amount as entertainment tax is going to further burden the makers of big movies and hence one would opt for getting tax benefits. And of course, if the makers are confident on ‘U’, then a title change might not happen at all.
