10000 Megawatt Challenge Awaits KCR

Power-Starved Telangana is going to gear up for yet another challenge due to Power Demand for the upcoming Rabi Season. The Peak Demand for the season will go up as much as 10000 MW due to increased agricultural usage. Telangana GENCO is planning to buy 2500 MW through short-term purchases from private players.

Telangana GENCO is confident that it can supply up to 9000MW during the Peak Demand and if the demand increases than that, other arrangements have to be made. During the Peak Times, the Power Unit cost will also increase and so the GENCO is going for short term purchases from private players.

Power poses the major challenge to Telangana government, particularly in the Peak Seasons. Most of the agriculture in Telangana is dependent on Bore Water which needs Power to get them running. On the other side, Telangana has inherited Power Deficit from the State Bifurcation. The government is going for costly purchases in order to make sure it does not get a bad name on this issue.
