84% Techies at Risk of Fatty Liver Disease

Some facts are like bitter pills. You wish you aren’t part of a health crisis. But new study shows that 84% Techies suffer from fatty liver syndrome.

The more sedentary your lifestyle, the more susceptible one is to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD). This means if you are spending hours sitting in a chair, then the chances are high that you have MAFLD. This was found in a study by a team of experts from University of Hyderabad.

Inadequate sleep, sitting for long hours at the desk, irregular eating times, intake of high calorie food and sweetened beverages result in the condition say experts. It was also found that the most affected were those from the IT sector.

About 5.4 million people work in the IT sector and the above mentioned lifestyle is part of their daily routine. The study also found that a majority 71% of techies were obese.

This led to findings that 34% of them had metabolic syndrome, a group of conditions that increased the risk of fatty liver, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Any solution? Well the study asked the IT firms to take up regular health check-ups of employees and provide wellness programmes.
